It's all about solid oak!
Our bed frames are made from solid oak. White American Oak from sustainable sources. No veneers or laminates, just solid oak. Which means they're strong enough to survive as many house moves as you can imagine. Take our oak beds apart and put them back together as many times as you want. No problem. You'll recognise the quality as soon as you feel the weight - oak is a dense timber and our beds feel as strong as they are.

Unique, contemporary oak beds.
We design our oak beds in-house and manufacture in our own workshops - our oak beds are original and we don't sell to other shops. We specialise in beds with clean lines and distinct style. The kumo was our first bed and is still one of our most popular models - an original bed design that can really be said to have stood the test of time. We only recently started making the Kumo as an oak bed, for many years we only made it in pine. The Kumo and the related bed, the Kyoto, have become two of our most popular contemporary oak beds.

When you order an oak bed online we'll call you on the phone and also write to you - so you'll know we exist, you'll know our names and how to contact us. Come to the showroom and you'll see that our oak beds are as good as they look in the photos.You can also test out the mattresses.
When you phone us we'll answer as The Natural Bed Company. That's the name of our showroom - we've been at this same address in Sheffield for over 20 years.

Sprung Beech Slats
One of the hidden benefits of our oak beds! We use sprung beech slats on all our bed bases. These slats are slightly curved and adjust to your profile by flattening out where you exert the most pressure – under your hips and shoulders – giving added comfort with firm support.
Oak beds of 1.20m and wider have a central support allowing each side to have its own set of slats. This ensures you won't roll together... or disturb your partner when you get out of bed. 90m and 1.80m wide oak beds have a special double slat system which allows you to vary the flexibility and firmness of the slats.
Sprung beech slats shouldn't be used in a damp environment – they will lose their shape – so you should ensure there is plenty of ventilation and the mattress is kept aired. Instead, your oak bed can be fitted with pine slats - these can also be fitted if you prefer a very firm bed.
Beds in other timbers
Oak is the most popular wood for our beds but we make the same beds in other timbers: walnut, maple, beech, ash and cherry. We can also make some of our beds in pine. Beds in other timbers. All these beds are made in the same workshops where we make our oak beds.
The oak, maple, walnut, cherry and ash we use for our beds comes from sustainably managed forests in the USA and Canada, mostly from the Eastern coastal states. The beech comes from FSC forests in Germany.
