The key factors for a mattress are comfort and support

The correct support will depend partly on your weight, profile and sleeping position. To keep your spine properly aligned, the mattress should neither be too soft nor too hard. Too soft and it will not support your hips and spine; too hard and it will cause pressure on your hips and shoulders. A general rule is that the greater your weight, the firmer the mattress that is needed to support you. We'd advise you to avoid a very firm mattress if you sleep on your side and have wide hips. Generally, lighter weight and curvier people will prefer softer mattresses.

Comfort is very subjective; some people prefer a firmer mattress to others. When choosing a new mattress bear in mind your opinions about your current mattress and others you’ve slept on.

Our selection will give you a range of firmness options, all with excellent long term back support. Our advice and recommendations are based on our opinions and observations and feedback from customers in our showroom.

Waterlattex Vision (firm)

A new and improved version of the Waterlattex - an excellent choice for all shapes and sizes. The Vision has two new features: a breathable band around the edges that increases airflow through the mattress and a Coolmax cover to keep you feeling fresh in summer.

The Waterlattex mattress is filled with a mixture of polymer foam and natural latex expanded under water to produce a firm sponge-like structure which breathes well. The filling has excellent elasticity and will give good, firm support for all body weights for many years. The surface is comfortable and relaxing.

Other features: easy maintenance, turn over with the seasons and rotate top to bottom once a month; convenient carrying handles on both sides; biodegradable filling; hypoallergenic, suitable for allergy sufferers; approx 18cm thick; made in Italy.

Memory Mattresses:

Memory mattresses contain slow recovery visco elastic, 'memory' foam. Memory foam reacts to the warmth and weight of your body by softening and molding to your profile. Your weight is very evenly distributed which helps good circulation and relaxes your muscles and joints. Less pressure on your hips and shoulders means you’ll toss and turn less, which will aid a relaxing and deep sleep.

We have three types, the Memory Firm, the softer Memory Medium and the Memory Sleepshaper.

Memory Firm (firm)

Suitable for most body weights. A very popular mattress in our showroom.

Features: easy maintenance, not reversible, simply rotate top to bottom once a month; mite and allergy free; approx 20cm thick; soft feel cotton cover, removable, machine washable; 2 year guarantee, 7 year warranty against defective parts or workmanship; made in Ireland.

Memory Medium (medium)

This is a softer memory foam mattress than the Firm, suitable for lighter to medium body weights. It is medium on the firmness rating.

Sleep Easy (medium firm)

We have selected the Sleep Easy as an excellent budget mattress. The filling is a high quality expanded polymer foam, the cover is polycotton.

Features: a simple, no frills, mattress that will give good back support for many years; easy maintenance, turn over and rotate top to bottom once a month; mite and allergy free; approx 16cm thick.

Relaxsan Vision (very firm)

An extremely firm mattress made from expanded polymer foam, a high density filling with excellent elasticity. A good choice if you like a very firm (hard!) mattress or weigh over 90Kg and need extra support.

Features: a warmer, wool side for winter and a cooler, cotton side for summer; easy maintenance, turn over with the seasons and rotate top to bottom once a month; possibly too hard if you weigh under 65Kg, but this is a personal choice; may also be too hard if you have wide hips and sleep on your side; mite and allergy free; approx 18cm thick; made in Italy.

Organic Latex (medium to firm)

This mattress is made on a farm in Wales. A 15cm thick core of latex is wrapped in organic Welsh wool and covered in certified organic cotton. A beautifully made mattress and an excellent choice for the organic lifestyle. Latex is natural rubber, the type of material that is used in Dunlopillow mattresses. A very comfortable medium to firm mattress.

Features: contains no fire retardant chemicals; maintenance: turn over and rotate top to bottom every three months; available in special sizes; approx 17cm thick. Made in Wales.

Unlike our vacuum packed mattresses it is delivered flat. A heavy mattress - you will need two people to install. We will arrange delivery for the same day we deliver our bed base.

Sleepshaper Special Memory (medium to firm)

We offer this memory mattress because it can be made in special sizes, eg 7’ long. It is available in two grades of firmness - FIRM (slightly firmer than the Memory Firm) and MEDIUM (slightly softer than the Memory Firm). It can also be made half and half for couples of different weights (order on the phone).

Features: also available with an optional Outlast cover to keep you cool; can be made in special sizes, eg 7' long; easy maintenance, not reversible, simply rotate top to bottom once a month; approx 20cm thick; supplied rolled; Made in England.

Orthosoft Vision (firm +)

One of the most popular mattresses in the range produced by Magniflex, makers of the Waterlattex and Relaxsan mattresses. The name is misleading - this is not a soft mattress. The Orthosoft is firmer than the Waterlattex but not as firm as the Relaxsan. An excellent choice and especially popular for people in the 80Kg weight range.

Features: suits most body weights but ideal for medium to higher body weights; high density mattress filling with excellent elasticity; a warmer, wool side for winter and a cooler side for summer; easy maintenance, turn over with the seasons and rotate top to bottom once a month; 100% cotton cover; low allergy properties, resistant to dust mites; approx 18cm thick; 12 year warranty; made in Italy.

Mattress Protectors

Recommended for every new mattress! If you want to protect your new mattress, or suffer from bed mite allergies, we'd recommend the use of a fitted mattress protector. They have a lightly quilted soft cotton cover with elasticated corners for easy removal and cleaning.
The underside of the mattress protector is treated with Ultrafresh*, an antibacterial barrier effective in the elimination of dust mites. Machine washable, they are made oversized and shrink to the correct size after the first wash.
